Victory! Raises Authorized for Dec. 14th Paycheck!

On the evening of 11/29 the MSP received this message: "The president and chancellors decided today to authorize the FY18 and FY19 salary adjustments and retroactive payments for the fourteen approved state-funded units. In addition, campuses are authorized to process salary adjustments for non-units for the same period. Campus HR is making every effort to process the increases and retro payments for the December 14 pay check."

We did it! Thank you to everyone who made phone calls, posted on social media, sent emails, and prepared to do more...our voices were heard. President Meehan received hundreds of calls, from union members on all the UMass campuses, with promises of more actions to come.

We will remain vigilant, of course, but this is very good news. Yesterday we were being told that there just was not enough money to pay the raises we were owed. Our collective voices made all the difference.

Applications for MSP's Grant Program Now Open

Applications are now being accepted for MSP’s Grant Program. In its ninth year, this program provides monetary support for activities that advance the mission of the MSP. Successful grants will enhance work in areas such as membership involvement, political action, improving working conditions, internal organizing, coalition building and addressing diversity issues. Funding can be used to support events and campaigns, as well as research projects.

UMass Unions' Letter to Chancellor Subbaswamy and President Meehan Demanding our Raises

Dear Chancellor Subbaswamy and President Meehan,

Today our unions learned that we will not be receiving the salary increases and retroactive pay that were promised to us. We had told our members to expect to see the increases in their paychecks as of this Friday (for classified staff) or December 14 (for MSP), as we were told by administrators on our campus. Workers have been waiting eighteen months for these raises. You cannot imagine how upset they are to be told that they will not have their money before the holiday.
