Work-Life Policies at UMass

MSP and the administration agreed some years ago to establish a Work-Life Committee whose charge was to discuss the family needs and work-life issues of bargaining unit members, including such issues as child care, housing and elder care.  The committee agreed to:

  • recommend approaches to disseminating information about the University's policies and services in areas related to work-life issues,
  • review and make recommendations about the accommodation of dual career families,
  • conduct a study of the effects of parenthood on the career development of faculty women and,
  • make additional recommendations as a result of their deliberations.

The study referred to above was conducted by the joint committee (under the direction of Professor Joya Misra from the Sociology department) in 2008-2010.  Reports and executive summaries can be found HERE.
