Description:
Amendment increasing your health insurance premiums deleted by House

Dear MSP Members,

Just minutes ago, the House of Representatives passed an amendment deleting the proposed increases in health insurance premiums for state employees. In other words, the cost increase the Governor proposed – which would have effectively wiped out most of the so-called “cost of living increase” we all received a few months ago – was rejected overwhelmingly. This is quite remarkable – both the Governor and the Speaker, Sal DiMasi, had supported increasing our health insurance premiums and many legislators initially seemed willing to go along. But the MTA led a coalition to defeat the increase. With the help of thousands and thousands of calls, emails, and postcards from members, the coalition was able to build a strong majority of House members in defense of the existing arrangement.

Thanks to everyone who wrote or called the Governor and filled out postcards to legislators. They heard you loud and clear.

Enjoy the weekend.

Max Page

MSP President
