Description:
MSP makes a call for nominations in anticipation of its Spring 2008 elections.

Are you interested in playing a bigger role in your union?

1. MTA’s Annual Meeting is May 9-10 in Boston

Dear MSP members,

I am writing to encourage you to consider attending the MTA annual meeting. As a member with good intentions but little time to devote to our union throughout the semester, I find that attending the annual meeting as a delegate allows me to serve when I am able and at a time when my service is greatly needed. The annual meeting offers a glimpse into the issues and needs that affect educators from K-12 and higher ed throughout
Massachusetts, and allows us to demonstrate our strength as higher educators in a forum that has traditionally been focused on K-12. I believe that our presence at the meeting is hugely important and our voice is beginning to be heard. We are seeing tremendous payoffs in the work our union has been doing for us, and your attendance at the annual meeting is a great way to show your support for their work and your commitment to the higher ed platform in our state.

Hope to see you there.

Leda Cooks, Communication

MSP is allotted 24 delegates. They will be elected at MSP’s General Assembly on April 17. Please RSVP is you would like to be nominated.

2. Serve on MSP’s Executive Board

Officers serve for two-year terms, board members for three-year terms. A list of candidates will be presented at MSP’s General Assembly on April 17; further nominations will be solicited at that meeting; and then elections will be held in the MSP office a week later. The Board is the decision-making body of the union. Meetings are held every two weeks, generally for an hour and a quarter. Officers meet separately during alternate weeks. Please speak with any of the current officers or board members for a better sense of what’s involved, and RSVP if you are interested in nominating someone (including yourself).
