Health Insurance

Benefited University faculty and librarians (50% FTE or more) are eligible for  insurance coverage through the Massachusetts Group Insurance Commission (GIC). Insurance plans include health, life and long-term disability programs.

Active State Employees' Premium to Change Effective August 1, 2009

The FY10 Appropriations Act makes changes in active state employees’ basic life and health insurance premium contributions. The changes became effective August 1, 2009. The premium changes for active employees’ basic life and health premium contributions are as follows: 

  • Employees hired on or before June 30, 2003 will now pay 20% of their monthly group insurance premium (instead of 15%)
  • Employees hired after June 30, 2003 will now pay 25% of their monthly group insurance premium (instead of 20%)

Benefited faculty retiring by January 31, 2010 may be able to preserve their health insurance contribution ratio of 15% via the Health Care Contribution ProgramHuman Resources has additional information.
