By now, all of you should have received a mailing to your home address from the Group Insurance Commission regarding the open enrollment process for health insurance coverage to commence July 1, 2011.
Although the envelope is labeled ACTION REQUIRED, we are concerned that members may miss this important communication.
Per GIC instruction, all active state employees with GIC health insurance MUST RE-ENROLL in a health plan during the annual enrollment period (April 8 - May 9, 2011) or the GIC will select your health plan FOR YOU. Failure to re-enroll -- even if you do not wish to change your current health plan -- will result in the conversion of your coverage from your current plan to a less expensive "limited network" plan which could provide a smaller network of providers and different co-pays (The GIC is encouraging you to consider one of these cheaper plans and is offering an incentive of 3 months of premium free coverage if you are enrolled in one of them.)
So it is CRITICAL that all GIC participants communicate their coverage choice during this enrollment period.
The mailing (which you can find HERE) says that your GIC Benefit Decision Guide will be mailed to your home (presumably at the beginning of April) along with your personalized re-enrollment form. You will need to use this form to make your health insurance plan selection and return it to Human Resources in Whitmore no later than May 9, 2011.
Visit the GIC website or attend the campus health fair on Monday, April 25th (10 a.m.-2 p.m./Student Union Ballroom) for more details.
