Action Alert: Higher Ed Hearing on Campus Monday

Email date:
02/18/2010
Description:
Give public testimony & see testimony on local aid, preK-12, & higher education

On Monday, Feb 22, starting at 10:00 am in the Campus Center Auditorium, representatives from the MA Joint House and Senate Ways and Means committee will hold a public hearing.  The committee will take testimony on Local Aid (10-11:30), Early Ed, K-12 and Chapter 70 (11:30 - 1) and Higher Education (1-2:30), and public testimony (2:30-4).

We should turn out in force to show how critical the decisions they will be making are and how they will influence the quality of education in the state.

From conversations we have had with Rep. Stephen Kulik, who is running this meeting, we have every reason to believe that this group represents allies who understand the need to fund our contracts and higher education in general.  It is very important that we are respectful and express our appreciation for their hard work and challenging decisions in these financial times.

Attached are some talking points to share with the legislators.  During discussions we might be mindful of which items have been brought up, and make an effort to express these points if they have not yet come up.

Sign-ups for public testimony appear to be first come, first served, beginnning at 9:45 am, for the 2:30 pm - 4 pm public testimony section.

Randall Phillis  -  MSP President
